Position Description

The Head Tennis Professional will manage, supervise, and oversee the Retreat's entire tennis operation and programs that create a 6-star experience beyond a traditional tennis-resort, bringing tennis to a level of intimacy and personalization similar to visiting a private country Manor Estate. Furthermore, in addition to the standard duties of a tennis professional teaching role, this position will work with Exercise Physiologists, Nutritionists and Sprots Performance Counselors in special integrative tennis performance and optimal health programs in a coordinated manner. While managing the Tennis Pavilion, this role will ensure curated related services that provide the highest standards of excellence. The year round, full-time salaried position requires a 'hands-on' approach, working with guests, providing lessons and overseeing front-line tennis staff and day-to-day tennis operations. The Head Tennis Professional will provide engaging and competent tennis instruction for all levels of players and supervise the maintenance of the tennis courts.


-Design, promote and direct all tennis activities and conduct tennis clinics and instructional programs/lessons.
-Promotes inter-connectivity/cross-promotion and cross-programming among tennis, golf, exercise physiology, nutrition, sports mindfulness, and Spa.
-Work with tecxhnology also used by the Wellness Director and colleagues for certain integrative wellness assessment/tennis performance packages.
-Prepares and manage budgets for tennis operations.
-Provides daily accounting of the entire tennis revenue stream and shop expenses.
-Completes and accurately prepares daily reports each night.
-Assist the Retail Manager with selection and sourcing of merchandise for Tennis Shop.
-Orders supplies associated with tennis activities.
-Supervises, trains, and directs tennis staff in customer service, , tennis professionals and other on-court personnel.
-Organizes charges and fees for all tennis-related activities.
-Supervises the planning, promotion, and execution of all tennis tournaments.
-Interprets and enforces facility policies, rules, and regulations without prejudice.
-Prepares the Tennis Operations annual budget; takes corrective actions as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained.
-Supervises and schedules the work hours for the Tennis operation and tennis staff within the parameters of the annual operating budget and based on guest needs & volumes.
-Plays tennis regularly with a cross-section of guests.
-Meets regularly with the Director of Engineering and the Tennis Consultant to review the condition of the tennis courts and makes recommendations on areas needing attention.
-Coordinates regular maintenance, repair and cleaning of courts with grounds and maintenance departments.
-Selects, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates the Tennis Instructors and other tennis staff.
-Ensures that all guests receive courteous, prompt and professional attention to all their tennis needs.
-Plans, promotes, and directs all tennis activities including daily management responsibilities.
-Plays tennis with guests of all skill-levels to generate enthusiasm.
-Strings rackets and perform other light equipment repairs.
-Attend all staff, management, and other applicable meetings.
-Maintains records relating to player and guest rounds and other statistics.
-Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws regarding health, safety, and employment.
-Schedules staff hours to assure that guests are fully served and that labor costs are maintained; periodically checks timecards for adherence to posted schedules.
-Assists in the development of short- and long-range plans for improvements to the tennis facilities and courts.
-Maintains visible presence on the tennis courts during peak times of play.
-Maintain USPTA membership in good standing in an active classification.
-Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community.
-Ensure compliance with health, safety, sanitation, and alcohol awareness standards.
-Leadership - Maintain a positive, upbeat role, promote, and exemplify Company values and represents departmental objectives and interests to internal and external customers.
-Customer Service - Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner.
-Teamwork - Develop and promote teamwork and cooperation among co-workers
-Safety - Comply with established safe work practices and attend to all safety-related training provided or made available by the Company.
-Due to the intimate nature of the resort with limited number of guests on property, must assist teams laterally across all departments to lead a seamless guest flow throughout the different resort spaces.
-Year-round full time position (closed one month in the summer)
-Other duties as assigned
