Wayfinder Family Services ensures that children, youth, and adults facing challenges always have a place to turn.Lifeguard Activity Leader ResponsibilitiesTo further the mission of the camp by providing supervision and ensuring a safe environment at the camp's swimming pool and waterfront activities. The Lifeguard Activity Leader ensures a positive water-safe experience for children, teens, alumni, or family members who participate in the Camp Bloomfield program. The Lifeguard Activity Leader is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the pool area and equipment.Attend the mandatory camp staff meetings the evening before each sessionPlan, coordinate, lead and evaluate exciting and age-appropriate activities, which are meant for participants who are blind or visually impairedTrain and supervise camp counselors and staff with particular emphasis on support roles in your activity and the safety and operation of that activityInspect and maintain equipment, making recommendations for repairs and replacements to the Camp Director when neededMeet regularly with supervisor to effectively plan and implement the activityMake inspections, with the Camp Director, of your program area for safety hazards and cleanliness to ensure quality lessonsFollow and enforce Camp Policies and safety with other staff members and campers in your activityAssist in fire drills and emergency camp proceduresWear a clean staff t-shirt while on dutyComply with the 11:30 PM "All camp" curfewAssist in developing campers' objectives with the Camp Director that ensures campers needs are being metAssist in the implementation of the camp orientation especially how it pertains to your program areaResponsible for assigned keys, equipment, etc.Assist with pick-up and drop-off of campers on arrival and departure dayAssist with loading and unloading of luggage on arrival and departure dayMeet and greet campers and their parents, especially on arrival and departure daysAssist in the cabin group set up, packing, and unpacking on arrival and departure daysInstruct campers and staff in emergency proceduresComplete all written reports in a timely mannerManage personal time off within the Camp PolicySet a good example for campers and staff, including punctuality, cleanliness, clean-up, table manners, the closing of camp, etc.Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent camp information to ensure campers' and staffs' rights are protectedCreate and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis throughout campAttend all meetings scheduled by the Camp Director or your supervisorAssist in all other activity and living areas as needed by the Camp Director and Assistant Camp DirectorCommunicate with the Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director daily; express any concerns, ideas, special maintenance needs, or safety hazardsSupport a group of children in a cabin along with a counselor when necessaryJoin a cabin during meals and assist the counselorsEnsure that all camper awards are creative, fun, appropriate, and completed by the end of rest hour on Awards Dinner nightResponsible for cleaning the pool, pool office, and deckResponsible for supervising the pool during special evening activities per sessionResponsible for campers' safety in the water at the pool and waterfrontMonitor weather conditions constantlyadminister swim test on the first day of each session or before allowing campers to access the deep end of the poolConduct the buddy check system once an activity period or as many times as necessaryResponsible for checking chemical levels (will receive specific training by Camp Manager)Report to the Program and Special Events Director for assignments pertaining to all special eventsAssist with the set-up and breakdown of all special eventAssist with overnight hike (supervision, set-up, storytelling, etc.)Other duties as assignedRequired Education, Skills, and ExperienceHigh school diplomaApplicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hireCurrent CPR, First Aid, and AED certificationMeet all health screening, drug testing, and background investigation clearances, as well as possess a valid driver's license, insurance and have an acceptable DMV recordApplicants must demonstrate evidence of a negative PCT test (taken within 72 hours) before the camp start dateMust be able to lift to 30 poundsAbility to oversee and supervise small and large groups in camp and cabin activitiesPrior resident camp experience is desirableDesire to work with children, teens, and adults who are blind, visually impaired, and multi-disabledAdditional RequirementsAll employees must be fully vaccinated (including booster) against the COVID-19 virus as a condition of employment.
