Job DescriptionSchool Nurse POSITIONJob Title: School Nurse
Reports to: Director of Health ServicesDepartment: Health Services
FLSA Status: Non-exemptJob Type: Hourly Supervisory
Responsibilities: nonePosition Summary: Under the supervision of
the Health Center Director, the licensed nurse is responsible for
support in the operation of the school health center, performs
nursing assessments and treats student and staff illness and
injuries following the IAA Health Center Policy and Procedures. The
nurse will provide nursing care for boarding high school students
aged 14-19 years during the school year and for camp students aged
8-19 during the summer with a variety of health needs ranging from
minor illnesses and injuries to chronic illnesses such as asthma
and diabetes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform nursing assessments and treat illnesses and injuries of
students and staff, including maintaining confidentiality,
documenting, and notifying administration, staff, parents/
guardians, and/or Emergency Medical Services (EMS) as
appropriate.
- Administer medications to students according to physician and
parent instructions; communicate with physicians and parents to
obtain authorization forms; notify parents of prescription
changes/refills and communicate with the pharmacy as needed.
- Document health visits of students and staff through electronic
health records
- Respond to on-campus urgent and emergent situations
- Observe and report any unusual behavioral finding or unsafe
student activity to school administrators.
- Remain with and give comfort to the ill or injured student
until released to class, administration, or the
parent/guardian.
- Receive and review student health files incoming at beginning
of year; communicate with parents, physicians' offices, and other
schools as needed to clarify or obtain information as needed.
- Assure students have updated immunization records; review
records of all students annually and notify students/parents of
follow-up shots.
- Assist with employee related on-the-job accidents, HR required
health screenings, and guidance with worker compensation
- Work as a team player and perform duties for members of the
team. This includes but is not limited to clerical duties,
obtaining meals for patients, cleaning a patient room, changing
linens, etc.
- Maintain the health office in a clean, orderly and safe
condition; dispose of biomedical waste and hazards according to
established procedures; prepare and restock first aid kits for
classrooms, dorm offices and field trips as assigned. Ensure
medications are secured in medication safe and room.
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to
maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Complies with IAA policies/procedures and acts as a good
steward of IAA finances.
- Respects the culture, diversity and rights of all students and
staff, their families and the community.
- Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational
objectives and growth.
- Performs other duties as assigned.SKILLS AND
ABILITIESEducation:
- Current Licensed Nurse in State of CaliforniaExperience:
- Previous work in school setting, preferred but not
required
- 1 year clinical experience preferred
- Good pediatric assessment skills, flexibility, the ability to
work well with a team, and the ability to make independent
decisions are essential.Equipment Familiarity: Windows OS, Google
suite, GmailCertifications, Licenses or Special Training:
- Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as
detailed in Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
- Valid California Driver License and insurance.
- Current CPR certificationKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- The Nurse should be able to perform assessments, make decisions
about dispensing OTC medications per protocol, consult with
providers as needed, and perform other duties as required to serve
the population.
- Access patients and make accurate nursing judgments
- Identify when need for additional treatment
- Monitor patients who spend night in Health Services
- Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written
instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in
writing.

histories.PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical: Primary functions require
sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office
setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to
occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift,
carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to
35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand
movement and fine coordination including use of a computer
keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of
private and commercial transportation, and to verbally communicate
to exchange information. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate
a computer keyboard and medical equipment.Vision: See in the normal
visual range with or without correction. Specific vision abilities
include close, distant and color vision perception and the ability
to adjust eye focus.Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or
