Job Description:
Job Description Summary: The Staff Facilities Engineer, under
minimal supervision, will perform skilled duties in establishing
and recording global utilities capabilities, capacities, and
limitations as they relate to utilization now and according to
future plans. In addition will participate in planning activities
and make detailed recommendations for modification, expansion and
other activities required to maintain business continuity and meet
business goals across all manufacturing sites. May be assigned lead
duties and responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Understands the capabilities, capacities and limitations of all
site utility systems globally. Documents and keeps current through
initial research and periodic audit, the capabilities, capacities
and limitations of all sites utility systems globally using tools
provided and, in collaboration with others, creates and develops
tools for this purpose. Ensures that no site ever ‘runs out' of any
utility i.e. ensures that capacity exceeds current and anticipated
demand. Identifies ‘critical' processes and associated utilities
and ensures appropriate resilience and redundancy is in place, or
makes detailed recommendations for utility upgrades to align with
department budget cycles. Ensures that site labeling of utilities
remains consistent with records. Remains aware of all future
equipment and facility plans affecting, or affected by, utilities.
Gathers detailed information regarding future utility needs by
involvement with various teams. Performs gap analyses between
equipment needs, and available utilities, and prepares change
requirements for maintenance and project teams to determine cost
and execute. Monitors implementation to ensure completion within
required time frames. Coordinates with Facilities Maintenance to
make best use of facility shutdowns for utility modifications.
Provides knowledge and expertise on available utilities to business
teams as required. Maintains a functional awareness of the typical
hazards of the workplace as well as the special hazards that may be
encountered at Dexcom, such as biohazards, radiation, chemicals,
etc. Follows established procedures for dealing with such potential
hazards. Promptly reports accidents on the job, preparing and
submitting accident reports. Adheres to policies, procedures and
practices on safety and operation instructions. Complies with rules
and regulations applicable to building codes. Job Requirements
Required Qualifications/Education: Has substantial knowledge and
understanding of engineering fundamentals with respect to systems
and equipment. Advance operational knowledge of building systems
(HVAC) and pneumatic controls, e.g. dead band, building steam
systems, domestic and industrial water systems, compressed air
systems, refrigeration, air conditioning compressors and controls,
water systems, electrical systems, Emergency Generator, UPS and
other related controls and systems. Expert knowledge at least one
major utility e.g. compressed air, HVAC or electricity. Able to
read, understand and discuss CAD drawings, blueprints, system and
equipment diagrams and P&IDs. Can create, redline and/or
improve SOPs, specifications, work instructions and other
documents. Knowledge of building codes, rules, and regulations as
well as procedures related to the position. Knowledge and
experience of working within a regulated environment e.g.
pharmaceutical or medical device. Minimum 3 years' experience
working with technical and business software systems such as
AutoCAD , Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, Bluebeam Revu ,
etc. Excellent communication skills in teams and individually.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks with varied
complexity and continually changing deliverables and schedules.
Ability to understand and apply company and departmental policies
and procedures. Able to work on set tasks unsupervised and request
assistance when needed. Physical ability to perform tasks assigned
to job function. Ability to move through limited access spaces and
cover distances on foot to widely separated sites. Preferred
Qualifications/Education: Knowledge and experience of working with
databases such as MS SQL and Access . Knowledge of current best
practices for sustainable energy sources and existing programs and
incentives for industry. Knowledge of energy conservation
techniques and practices in industry. Experience with building
management systems, validated equipment monitoring systems and
calibration management systems. Functional/Business Knowledge:
Establishes and maintains a positive and cooperative working
relationship with co-workers and members of other departments.
Effectively communicates orally, in writing and electronically.
Maintains proficiency at current level and continually updates
knowledge through appropriate courses, seminars, publications, and
contacts with others in the trade. Works effectively in a
service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing
priorities.
